This animated show delivers an off-beat round up of life on Earth from its intergalactic presenters.
The concept and IP were developed in-house. Tourists from Mars was initially picked up and funded by the BBC, and the studio developed concept art, key themes and story arcs which were presented to Anne Gilchrist (Controller of CBBC) who commissioned a pilot and four animated shorts for BBC Newsround.
The animation team created a library of flexible 3D assets for the characters and sets within the show. Chris Reddy (Pixelface, Sorry I’ve Got No Head) was commissioned to write scripts for the show, and the voiceover for the two main characters was recorded with Nigel Planer and Jenny Eclair.
The animated shorts saw our alien friends interacting with live action footage of school children in a Q&A format. We also developed a multiplatform strategy for the show, where the 7-10yrs target audience could further explore topics raised in the series.
